Hotel Rwanda

Watched the movie Hotel Rwanda last Thursday. It was a good movie. It is really sad to see that the entire continent is ignored by everyone. Nearly a million people were killed when the whole world just sat their and watched the whole thing unfolded. I wonder if the world would have reacted the same way if Africa had a lot of resources (like oil). Hmm… I guess not huh?

I was talking to one of my friend about this and he pointed to me to an essay written by a South African "Let Africa Sink”. Well if you don’t want to read the entire essay… here is his conclusion for the problems in Africa.

So here’s my solution for the African fiasco: a high wall around the whole continent, all the guns and bombs in the world for everyone inside, and at the end, the last one alive should do us all a favor and kill himself.

I wonder if he will say the same if he was living in any of the problematic area in Africa. Isn’t it easy to say something like this when you are not affected by the problem?

Everest

Watched Everest on DVD, this was filmed in IMAX format. I have seen this movie in IMAX before, I really enjoyed this movie so I decided to rent it again. It sucks to watch a movie in the TV which I have seen it in the IMAX. There is no effect at all. But I enjoyed all the other commentaries and the making of the Everest. Apparently they took the IMAX camera all the way to the top of the world. I don’t know why anyone will ever think about something like that. In a IMAX format to take a movie for 90 sec you need film which weights 10 pounds. Well the movie was a short one but still I can’t imagine the things they (I am sure they hired lots of sherpas) have to carry to the summit. Well if you get a chance to see this movie in an IMAX theater don’t miss it.

Buying VS Renting

This weekend was a busy weekend. One of my friend visited me from New Jersey and we were going around and meeting lot of our common friends. It was fun to see all these guys who I lost touch with. Every one of them has bought a house. Now my thought about buying a house is back. Few months back I started looking into it and decided that it is too expensive to get a house at this point, but after talking to my friends looks like may be I can afford a condo or a townhouse somewhere. Well I am starting to think about it now. It totally makes sense to buy a house than renting it, but why am I not doing it?? I guess it the commitment (financial) problem and the fear that I will be tied down financially for sometime.

Blog and Guestbook Spammers

What’s up with the spammers?? They spam us with all the junk mail in the world and if you have a guestbook in your website they spam that too!!! If you have a blog then they spam the blog comments too!! What the hell is wrong with these people? Do they really think that someone is going to visit their site or someone is going to buy their product by spamming? For the last two months my guestbook is being spammed and I thought I will just delete it whenever I get spammed but this is going out of hand right now and it is pissing me off. Finally today I spend some time with my guestbook to make sure that those spammers won’t be able to post anything in my guestbook. I guess I need to do the same for my blog also. If I can do something to piss them off I will be glad to do it…

Un-Eventful Weekend

The weekend was pretty un-eventful. It was really cold outside so didn’t really wanted to go outside. I really really wanted to take my bike out and go somewhere but don’t think I can deal with this cold weather.

I was browsing the web and found this group of bloggers in India doing some really good work for the Tsunami relief (Anita, Suman, Kiruba) I am really glad to see the overwhelming response from the people for the relief effort. Even at my work place I received lots of email about the different organization who were doing something for the relief. Hope the right people get the aid on time.

Getting Started With My Blog

I read lot of my friend's blog for a long time, and thought about doing my own blog. Unfortunately never did anything about this till today. Finally got the movable blog Movable Type up and running. This movable type is pretty cool instead of having your blog on some one else site you can have your own blog. And the best part is if you have your own website you can download this and for 1 author and 3 weblogs (not sure what this means) it is free. The only draw back is you doon't get support for this version, so if you hit a bug you got to live with it.
