Sania Mania

Well Sania Mizra might be the first Indian women to reach 42nd rank in women’s tennis, but I feel like the media is hyping this up a lot more than it should. I totally understand how difficult it is to reach a level like this at the age of 18 and that too from a country where sports is not given that much importance. I totally give credit to her, but I am just getting sick of seeing her everywhere.

Where ever I turn Sania is there. Go outside you will see Sania holding a phone (advertisement for a phone company). Turn on the TV and she is there in all the ads, read the news paper and she is there in the front page and full page news on the sport section. I am totally sick and tired of seeing her in everyplace and the hype the media is adding.

Yesterday she played against Maria Sharapova. The first news in the paper was “Its Sania Mania as she takes on 2nd seed Sharapova”. I mean is this news worthy to be in the first news in the first page?? I just don’t get it and then you go to the sports section and you see a big picture of her 3/4 of the page is a picture of her and more news about the match. May be if she has won the match, then I might be able to understand. But just the match was so much hyped. I wonder what might have happened if she actually won the match?

Why is the media hyping it up so much? Or may be I am the only person who feels that way. And then everyone wonders why people are behaving this way

‘"We were shocked with a few incidents back home. Mohammed Kaif's home was stoned; (Rahul) Dravid's car was smashed. These things should not happen," he said’ link from rediff news

This is what happened when the Indian Cricket team did not perform well in the world cup. When the media is hyping everything they just sit quiet because it favors the player. Then when things turn around they are shocked!!

I should be happy that they haven’t built a temple for Sania Mirza yet.

She's getting media attention because she's hot. Her tennis ability is sort of a side-bar to the main story: great boobs.

Hi Sam,
Nice to see atleast 'some' people get a broader picture.
The media makes her all the more colorful everyday just coz she is supposed to look good by a vast majority of the audience (you ask me, she looks like a tomato face kept on top of a Kiwi fruit). Nobody seems to care that she is a player whose head is stuffed with pride; a quality which does not belong to a champion. And the media totally covers for her.. why? because after all looks are all that matters. Never have I seen one report which talks about her hautiness. Only if people like you become reporters..
Lets look into history. Was P.T. Usha given her due credit after what she gave India. Does the media give enough attention to the World no.4 in long jump Anju George? Or come to cricket.. How many Indians know that the Women's Cricket Team is the 2nd best in the World?

Eve.
